CLP, a national skilled trade staffing company, will be holding a special recruiting event in Overton on July 24-25 this week. The event, which is being held at the Northshore Inn in Overton, will be seeking candidates to fill positions for the construction of large solar projects in southern Nevada, including a large facility to be built on the Moapa Paiute Reservation.
“Because of the requirements of these projects, we are hiring about 90 percent of the people from Nevada to work on them,” said Judy Jett of CLP. “That gives local people, who maybe have a little construction background, the opportunity to open up a relatively new industry in the state. Solar is, for the most part, a brand new field which is on the incline nationwide.”
The CLP recruiters coming to Overton this week are looking to fill two types of positions. The first is for Certified Equipment Operators who have certification and a minimum of 3 years experience in operating a telecoping forklift, Bobcat, skid steer or backhoe. The other position is that of a Solar Installer which requires only a few months of construction or outdoor work experience.
Jett explained that the company is actually recruiting crews to work on three different solar projects being built in southern Nevada. In addition to the Paiute Reservation facility, there are two other solar sites near Boulder City which will be commencing construction as well. With about 250 people being hired, the company hopes to be able to use much of the same crew for all three sites.
The Overton recruiting event will take place on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
