The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logandale Stake hosted the 2014 Family History Fair at the Stake Center on Saturday, Nov. 15. The event featured various classes available to participants ages 12 and above regarding family history throughout the day.

Beginning at 9 a.m. participants were welcomed and given options as to which classes were available. Six 30 minute classes were available including Beginning Family History, Family Search, Writing Your Life History, How To Use Ancestry.com, Indexing and Introduction to Photoshop 1.

Following a 10 minute break another six classes were introduced including Youth Family Search, Family Search, Writing Your Life History, Preparing Names For Temple Work, How To Use Puzzilla and Introduction to Photoshop 1.

After another 10 minute break the classes repeated to allow for participants to attend a total of four of the available classes.
Youth participation was encouraged because “they are better and faster at technology,” according to Youth Family Search class teacher Heather Hofmann. There were over 17 youth in the class that was presented by Hofmann. Hofmann explained that the students were looking for individuals missing from family trees “to put back in the tree.”

Hofmann cautioned the youth to keep an eye out for time gaps between siblings in their various searches that may indicate a missing child from the family. She relayed stories about finding missing children and then reuniting them with their families through church temple work.

Hofmann said that she recently found the last of 17 children of one family. This enabled her to complete an entire family’s work.
“It is amazing doing (this type of) work for your own family,” she said, enthusiastically encouraging the youth to do the same.
Throughout the fair computers were made available for participants to create Family History accounts and to print their own family history charts.
