Clean Up Day Schedule For Logandale Trails

By WESLIE STRATTON

Leading up to the busiest time of the year, a clean-up has been scheduled for the Logandale Trails area on Saturday, Sept. 12. With lower than usual temperatures being forecast for the month, ATV enthusiasts will soon be out in full force. Partners In Conservation (PIC) representatives are hoping to provide them with a beautiful and clean environment.

“We wanted to host a clean-up of the Logandale Trails System before the crowds start to arrive,” PIC Administrator Elise McAllister said. “This way folks will pull into tidy campsites and will see beautiful scenery instead of empty water bottles along the trails. And even though visitors take great care of this area, we can always find some trash to pick up.”

The clean-up will take place from 7:00-10:30 a.m. on September 12. While volunteers are encouraged to begin arriving at 7:00 a.m., organizers will happily greet those who arrive at any time and are appreciative of any time donated be it half hour to an hour or more, McAllister said.
“It’s not a huge distance to travel,” McAllister said of the nearby trail system. “Come out for an hour or whatever.”

McAllister said that organizers will be set up at the main trailhead with breakfast snacks, gloves, trash bags and all other needed clean-up supplies.
At around 10:30 a.m. volunteers will be thanked with lunch and a t-shirt and will be invited to enjoy the freshly cleaned surroundings with their ATVs or go on a hike with family members.

According to McAllister scheduled clean-up tasks include picking up trash along the trails, cleaning out campfire rings, using magnets to sweep campsites and trailheads for nails, pulling weeds and more.
In the past, clean-up events have included anywhere from 20 to 50 volunteers but McAllister is encouraging higher numbers to minimize the amount of work for each individual.
“That’s the beautiful thing about volunteers,” she said. “The more that participate the more work gets done quickly. There’s more time for fun and relaxing and visiting.”

McAllister said that PIC likes to emphasize the social aspect of volunteer work and create a fun environment for participants to enjoy each other’s company.
“We always like to have part of that be part of the volunteer work,” she said.
