A Pro-class Mud Race event took place at the Logandale Sports Complex parking lot on Saturday, September 26. It was the third year for this event which has become an annual favorite and has been growing every year. The proceeds from this event go to the Moapa Valley Fire and Rescue Stations.
Around 430 spectators showed up to watch the fun, with well over 70 entries competing. A totl of 69 trucks participated in the races. In addition, seven 4-wheel drive ATV’s and 1 Junior ATV participant entered the races.

The weather was unseasonably hot and humid for the end of September. This took its toll on spectators and competitors alike.
“The heat not only had an effect on the people but the trucks as well,” Skaggs said. “There were trucks that would make through the first round and not the second round due to overheating.”
Skaggs also pointed out that the sun also caused some snags with the timing system.

“But we figured that out and we won’t have that problem anymore,” Skaggs said. “The timing lights are invisible beams at the beginning and end (of the run), and two of the transmitters on the finish line weren’t reading when the trucks crossed the finish line, but we figured it out.”

Casey Hanks from Simplot did a ride-a-long for one of the spectators. Great Basin Meats supplied the food and refreshments for those who attended. And in addition to the races there was a petting zoo supplied by Alicia’s Feed and Grooming.

There was also a silent auction held. During the auction, Larry Skaggs got into a bidding war with an 8-year old over a set of toy trucks donated by Overton NAPA Auto Parts. The 8-year old won.
Skaggs said he wanted to give a special thanks to Logandale Fire Station 74, Rick and Lori Houston, Sarah Guzman, Mike Cook, Joe Smith, Ryan Turner, Isaac Bradshaw, Punky Tom, Conner Adams, Julie Nelson and family, Josh and Penny Rumsey, Ken Bessey, Bren McClean, Nathan Taz, Sonya Huerta, Stacey Dupee, Mike Hemmingway, John Stastny and the Parks and Rec crew at the fairgrounds.
