This weekend was the season opening of the Moapa Valley Corn Maze. Although the crowds were light on Friday, presumably due to local MVHS Homecoming activities, Saturday saw steady traffic through both the corn maze and the many other fun activities and attractions at the site.

“Today has been really good,” said corn maze operator Billy Pulsipher. “It has been steady. Not quite as good as our best weekend last year, but good. For being so early in the season, we’re very pleased.”
Day maze traffic started at opening. Pulsipher said that most of the early traffic was from Las Vegas. But people had come from as far as Pahrump to enjoy the maze.

The corn maze is a family run operation. Dave Lewis started the maze last year. But after such a great response, this year he pulled in cousin Billy Pulsipher to help organize and run things with the goal of making it bigger and better than ever.

Las Vegas residents Joe and Shawna Amos brought family and friends to spend the afternoon and evening in Moapa. First, Joe took the smaller kids through the day maze.
“The day maze was great,” he said. “All the kids had a good time. We waited until dusk to do it so it was a little dark, but not too creepy yet and the kids all loved it.”

His wife Shawna, however, waited around with the older kids until after dark so they could experience the thrills of the haunted corn maze. Even waiting in line to enter the maze was thrilling as sounds of chainsaws and maniacal laughter could be heard floating in the dark.
“We saw the signs a few weeks ago on our way to Pine Valley and decided we wanted to come back and try it out,” Shawna said. “We’re so excited and the kids have looked forward to coming.”

The maze was not the only attraction to draw crowds. Logandale residents Brian and Trina Linford took their young kids to the maze to spend the evening. It was getting a little dark when they got there so they decided to postpone their trip through the maze for another day. But the kids had lots of fun on the other attractions.

“Other than the maze, there is lots of great stuff out here to do,” said Trina, “especially for really young kids. All the kids’ stuff is reasonably priced, as well.”

The Moapa Valley Corn Maze is open every weekend this month: Friday and Saturday from noon to 11 pm and Sunday from noon to 8 pm. For more information visit www.mvcornmaze.com.
