No One Asked Me But… (July 27, 2016)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… Did anyone else watch the Republican Convention? I have found it very entertaining.

For three days a variety of speakers cleaned up the mess Donald Trump has made over the past year while campaigning across America. They reminded me of the guy in the parade with a shovel that follows the horses and picks up the manure from the road. Just about the time they were seeing some success, the horse spoke for over an hour and made a mess again.

Most of the speakers at the convention were on message and it was a message that appealed to Republicans and a great many of the independent voters who will decide the election.
The message of Donald Trump is not offensive, the messenger is. If you can get past the messenger, the message is one that inculcates conservative democrat values as well liberal Republican policy.

If Donald had been smart, he would have merely stepped to the microphone, stated, “I accept the nomination for Presidency of the United States, thank you,” and sat down. However, during his one hour and fifteen minute speech, he undid most of the good done by earlier Republican speakers.

In 1920, in a smoke filled room after mid-night during a divided convention the Republicans chose a lightweight compromise Presidential candidate, Warren G. Harding of Ohio. One of the Republican establishment leaders stated that they should “Keep Warren at home. If he goes out on tour, somebody’s sure to ask him questions, and Warren’s just the sort of damned fool that will try to answer them.”
Someone needs to get Donald Trump to shut up for each time he opens his mouth. He steps all over the message he is trying to deliver.

Hardcore liberal Democrats are voting for Hillary no matter what, as they should. Republicans as per usual will not support the Republican candidate unless he agrees one hundred percent with them. On top of this, Donald Trump has personally offended many hard core Republicans.

While one might get over political disagreements, one will not forgive attacks on family members. Trump has made fun of the handicapped, and has made crude remarks about female media members, as well as questioning the honesty and integrity of the Republicans who sought the nomination against him.
While it is understandable that Republican Party leaders are upset with Donald, the Romneys, Bushes, Kasiches of the party who refuse to endorse the Republican candidate are merely handing the election to the Democrats.

Senator Ted Cruz went a step further and spit in the punch bowl at the convention. One can understand Cruz’s refusal to endorse a man who made a personal attack on his wife and accused his father of being a conspirator in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

I would really have been impressed had Cruz challenged Trump to a duel of honor. As a Tea Party conservative, Cruz wants to return to the days of the founding fathers and that is exactly what Andrew Jackson did when an opponent maligned his wife.

However, it would have probably been best if he has just boycotted the convention, as did the other Republican leaders. The Republican leadership is “Angling” the Donald. It will be interesting to see how many follow the example of 200 leading Republicans in the State of Nevada whose support re-elected Harry Reid.

If Hillary is inaugurated in January 2017, she should invite these Republicans to sit on stage with her. As sad as it must seem to the Republican stalwarts, the Democrats are just politically smarter than they are. Bernie Sanders may be a socialist but he does understand politics. If Hillary Clinton is not elected, it means Donald Trump will be president. As much as Bernie dislikes Hillary, he will do whatever it takes to defeat Trump.

I am anxiously awaiting the Democrat Convention to see how Hillary and her supporters counter the attacks on her by the Republicans in Convention. I really can’t wait to see the debates between “Crooked Hillary” and the “Madman Donald.”

No one asked me but… On August 4, 2016, the residents of Moapa Valley will have an opportunity to express their thoughts on the reorganization plans for the Clark County School District. The meeting will be held at 6:00 pm at the fairgrounds and will be conducted by County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

The Moapa Valley PROGRESS has run a number of articles about the effort to change the power structure of CCSD. Look for an in-depth study of the issue in an upcoming edition of the PROGRESS. This will be a good source for the background to understand what is at stake.

The August 4 meeting will be an open forum for all who wish to express their opinion on the issues of education within this valley. Every parent and educator in the valley should be there to represent the valley’s children. Everyone there should ask: How will this reorganization affect my child’s education? Will more children learn what they need to learn or is this merely another educational fad?
Citizens of Moapa Valley: don’t miss this opportunity to participate in this educational process.

No one asked me but… My wife and I watch the 5:30 pm national news and then the local 6:00 pm evening news. This is pretty much a regular routine.
During the local news, there is always a report on the weather. How hard can weather reporting be in southern Nevada? It is hot.

What amazes me is that the weathermen seem to find this newsworthy. They inevitable say we are in a hot spell. I want to shout, and I must admit I often do shout: It is not a hot spell, you idiot, it is summer!
I have a message for all weathermen in southern Nevada it is hot. People who chose to live in Green Bay, Wisconsin should not complain when it is below zero. That is what Wisconsin is all about. Those of us who live here should not complain about the heat. We chose to live here.
Now if it gets below freezing in Southern Nevada, we have a right to complain because we move here to get away from that kind of temperature.

When you begin to believe it is too hot here, remember that is what keeps this place from being overrun by Californians. We need this heat so when people come to visit, they can say Las Vegas is a great place to visit but I would hate to live there.

Thought of the week…Today we have a weather channel – 24-hour weather. We had something like that where I grew up. We called it a window.
