Joyce Holtz
Joyce Loraine Holtz (Grandma Jo), age 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 29, 2016 at her home in Overton, Nevada, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born July 8, 1935 in Sturgis, Michigan to Jacob Foster and Elsie Kime Baker. On October 12, 1951 she married Jerry Duane Holtz in Sturgis. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1986.
Joyce grew up in Sturgis. As a young mother of four children, she boarded a train from Michigan to Las Vegas to join her husband who had found work out west. After raising their family in Las Vegas, Joyce spent most of her later years living in Overton. Her life was focused on her husband and children. She loved playing the guitar and singing with her siblings; fishing and camping with her sweetheart and playing cards and games with her children and grandchildren. Although she worked as a change girl in many of the “vintage” casinos in Las Vegas, this didn’t detract from the love and care she always gave to her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie (Pete) Hamilton of Overton; three sons, Dennis Holtz of Overton, Ricky (Sue) Holtz of Animas, NM and Daniel Holtz of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters: Alice, Carrie, David, Pauline, Maxine, George, Louise, Bonnie and Bobbie.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Community Church in Overton, Nevada.
Friends and family are invited to sign an online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
