Officials and community members in Mesquite are going to be taking their Veterans Day festivities to a new level this year.
In addition to the Veterans Memorial Ceremony at Pioneer Memorial Park on Hillside Drive at 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 4, and the parade that travels down Mesquite Boulevard at 10 a.m., there will also be a special party held at the Mesquite Municipal Airport from noon to 4 p.m. The airport is located at 1200 Kitty Hawk Drive.
In what is being marked as the first annual Hangar Dance, proceeds gathered from the event will be donated to the Mesquite Veterans Center in their efforts to expand their current building.
There will be bands playing music, local groups singing, skits and a DJ to fill in as well. The suggested donation to attend is $5 per person over the age of four. Ages three and under are free. This will be a family event.
According to Larry LeMieux, one of the event’s organizers, there will be a 1940’s style USO event. Everyone is invited to wear their military uniforms or costumes and era-related clothing, although it is not required.
There will be vendors from local businesses and organizations also on site.
To kick off the event, Sky Dive Mesquite will kick off the Hangar Dance from the air with an American Flag.
Local businesses and groups who may want to participate are encouraged to call LeMieux at the airport at 702-346-2841 for more information.
