The Mesquite Athletics and Leisure Services department hosted an Independence Day party at the Mesquite rec center outdoor pool on July 4. The free event was open to the public and featured water slide, bounce houses, snow cones and snacks.
Families gathered poolside and children of all ages attended and enjoyed the opportunity to cool off.
According to parks and rec employee Kaylee Sonnenberg the event was well attended.
“I felt like it went really well,” she said. “There were lots of people there. Lots of families.”
Sonnenberg said that popular activities included face painting and the water slide.
“I had a lot of kids acting excited about the slide,” she said.
The event kicked off at 10 a.m. but closed down about an hour early.
“A kid had an accident in the pool,” Sonnenberg explained.
While the outside pool festivities concluded unexpectedly, many participants continued to swim in the indoor pool.
