Poets young and old, beginners or seasoned, are invited to a free poetry workshop at the Moapa Valley Library in Overton on Saturday, Feb. 1 beginning at 2 pm.
The workshop, entitled “The Poetry Toolbox” will feature Clark County Poet Laureate Heather Lang-Cassera. She will be leading the group through an exploration of single-sentence poems, haiku and other poetry styles in a no pressure environment where all are welcome.
Lang-Cassera became the third poet laureate of Clark County in 2019. Since that time, she has been active in outreach efforts throughout the county to further the art and appreciation of poetry.
Those efforts have even included the rural areas of the county. Lang-Cassera travelled to Overton last summer to hold a similar workshop which was well attended.
“Poetry is a means for exploring the magnificent connections we have to each other and to this world, including our brilliant Southern Nevada, which surrounds and embraces us,” said Lang-Cassera. “Poetry is in everyone, and everything is poetry, and when I really sit down to think about that, it takes my breath away.”
