Parenting Class To Be Offered

By NICK YAMASHITA

“Parenting: The Love and Logic Way” classes and workshops will begin on Feb. 6. The workshops are a six-week course that aims to help current, past and future parents in understanding and finding methods to raise kids. Logandale resident Kim Cope will host this course which will be presented at the Cope home at 1271 Bunnell Ave. in Logandale on Thursdays at 6 p.m.

The course was written by Dr. Charles Fay and Jim Fay and is used in accredited college courses nationwide, as well as locally by Mesquite Behavioral Health.

“This is a great course and does amazing things,” Cope said. “It brings such good things to people’s lives!”

For over 40 years, the course has provided support and encouragement for parents, educators and counselors. Dr. Charles Fay is a well-known psychologist, public speaker, internationally recognized author, consultant and, most importantly, a parent.

Co-writer Jim Fay has been an educator for over 30 years, including multiple positions within instruction and administration.
The basis of the course is to teach and support.

“We love our kids so much that we are willing to set and enforce limits,” Cope said, adding that this also means “the process is done with sincere compassion and empathy.”

The instructor for the course is Andrea Whittle of Las Vegas. Whittle has applied principles from the course as a mother of two. She has also taught from preschool age to 3-4-year-old kids for over 14 years.

“I understand challenging kids!” Whittle said. “I got one and there’s always got to be that one challenging kid in class. Funny thing, that one kid is the one who tugs at my heart the most because we work so hard to get to a place of trust.”

The cost of the course is $175 per person. But a spouse may join at no additional cost.
“This is still a great price!” Cope said. “It would cost more for the course in a college atmosphere.”

The course is perfect for anyone who works with kids whether in the home or in an instructional place or in an athletics environment.

“If you are a struggling parent, don’t give up!” Whittle said. “There are better days ahead. With the right tools, you will create change. And the best part is it isn’t hard. It’s just not our natural thought process because we are guided by our emotions because we love our kids. If you would like to find your way back to enjoying being a parent, while laughing along the way, join us!”
