Preschool Kids Advance

By NICK YAMASHITA

The Progress

Twin brothers Clint and Grant Hardy of Logandale receive their advancement honors for pre-school from Permanent Learning Solutions owner Kaelynne Pendleton (left) and teacher Jennifer Schouten (right).

Permanent Learning Solutions, LLC (PLS) held a graduation for students who were moving on from Preschool to Kindergarten. This was a complex undertaking since the small local preschool had been closed since mid March due to COVID-19.

The celebratory ceremonies were adjusted for social distancing recommendations, however, and they went forward last week on May 26 and 27.

PLS owner, Kaelynne Pendleton expressed her joy in these ceremonies taking place. “I just had to see these students and say goodbye to them,” she said.

The school did a mini graduation ceremony with each child being 15 minutes apart. Only the child and parents were allowed in to receive a certificate.

Pendleton and her teachers had the idea when they were arranging for the kids to come and clean out their personal “cubbies”. In addition to that, each child was able to put on a cap and gown, pose for a photo with the teachers, turn their tassel, receive their “diploma” as well as other awards and say goodbye.

“There were other awards given out,” Pendleton said. “We had the Young American Award and the Skipping Award as two that were given out.”

The Young American Award is given to those students who memorized the pledge and lead the class in reciting it. A majority of the students were able to receive that award.

The Skipping Award is given to those who excel in Neuroplasticity. This is the capacity of neurons and neural networks in the brain to change their connections and behavior in response to new information, sensory stimulation, development, damage, or dysfunction, Pendleton explained.

“It is the connecting of the right and left side of the brains, so they are working interweavingly together to help stimulate growth, learning capacity, and more,” Pendleton said. “We use physical and mental exercises, scientifically proven to build and connect the neurological pathways with their physical connections. Thereby, fixing the learning problem rather treating the symptom.”

The graduation ceremonies took place at the preschool location which is inside the Old Logandale School. Fellow teachers helped organize the event. Fellow teachers included Jennifer Schouten, Kristi Jackson and a volunteer aide – McKelby Bill.

“I appreciate the teachers, parents, and their support,” Pendleton said. “All the hard work by the students and their parents. It has been a trying time with the pandemic closure. I am grateful to be able to teach and love the kids. It is the greatest reward as an educator.”
