Dozens of Moapa Valley children filed into the Moapa Valley Library on Saturday, July 19, for the last summer activity of the year. The ‘Mad Science’ interactive demonstration for all ages was a big hit amongst the Valley youngsters.

Electron Joe traveled from Las Vegas to teach the many eager children about air. He brought both magic tricks and science experiments with him, and his jokes literally had the kids “rolling in the aisles.”

First Electron Joe explained that science is like magic. He asked one boy to come from the audience to rip a playing card into pieces. Joe then magically put the card back together. He said in science he likes to take things apart, see how they work and then put them back together.

Electron Joe shows local kids how to take a shower in dry ice gases so they don’t have to get wet!
The theme for the day was Air. Electron Joe had all kinds of experiments and demonstrations to help the children better understand the physics of air. He talked about vacuums, vortexes and very cold gases. He even taught the kids how to bathe and shower without getting wet!

The highly educational and very funny program kept every child involved and interested for a whole hour. As the kids left they were asking the librarians, “where the science books,” were.

Electron Joe thought that the day was, “fantastic.” “The kids were so excited to be here and they were very attentive,” he said. “I think they had fun and I know I did!”
