Would you like to know which cactus are native to Nevada and learn which ones, even though they are not native, still do well here? How about proper planting and maintenance of cactus and the common pests that attack them? Do you have other cactus questions that you’d like to ask? Then you need to attend “Cactus for Southern Nevada,” a free workshop presented by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension on September 9, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at 1897 N. Moapa Valley Boulevard in Logandale.
The speaker will be Jeff Meckley, a conservation programs coordinator for the Southern Nevada Water Authority. Meckley coordinates landscape conversions through the Water Authority’s “Water Smart Landscape” program and provides information on how to save water use via plant selection and irrigation efficiency.
A former nursery owner and landscape contractor, Meckley is a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor and has thirty years’ experience working in the horticultural field in Southern Nevada.
Participants must register by September 4. To reserve a seat or for more information, call Pam Proctor at 397-2604 or 346-7215 or e-mail proctorp@unce.unr.edu.
