This year, they retired nine flags and approximately forty people came to watch. As the flags burned, Trina Dalley played Taps on her trumpet.
“It’s a great honor to retire nine flags,” Cub Scout chairperson, Shanalee Simper commented. “We had a really good turnout here this year to witness the ceremony.” The U.S. Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning”.
