Las Vegas resident, April Heath, will be filling the shoes of Debbie Hamilton and Barbara Richardson at the Moapa Valley Library as the new librarian.
April who is originally from Ohio has lived in the Las Vegas area since 1999. She is married and has one daughter who will be entering the 8th grade this year.
April has a Masters degree in Library and Information Science and worked at the Vegas Sunrise Branch Library since 2005. She then took a job at the Laughlin Library in 2006 with the same job title that she represents here. Interestingly, the Laughlin Library had a very similar beginning as our Moapa Valley Library. It began in a store-front in 1987 and later received it’s own building back in 1994.
Our own library opened up in 1967 and operated out of the store-front where the local flower shop, “Days Remembered”, is now located. It was then expanded into it’s new location in 1987.
When asked what she thinks about the Valley she smiled and said, “I loved working in Laughlin, but already I love the Moapa Valley more. I’ve been through here in the past few months visiting and I find the area to be wonderful, I love the green in the Valley!”
“I have a pomegranate tree in a pot in my backyard that I have been nursing for a while now and the staff has recently told me of the Pomegranate Festival, and that pomegranates actually grow wild here!” she said.
April has expressed here gratitude for the great shape the library is in. “It is organized and well staffed,” she said. “I’ll keep things as is. Barb and Deb have done a great job!”
