The Overton Power District concluded a holiday food drive last week which will benefit the local food bank at Cappalappa Family Resource Center.

The district partnered up with the Ute Perkins Elementary School in Moapa to gather the food through community donations. Food donations were gathered both at the school and at the OPD Overton office starting on November 1 and continuing through last Friday. Over 540 food items were collected in the effort to re-stock the local food pantry.

This was the first year that the OPD coordinated the food drive effort.

“We were looking for ways that we could give back to this community and help the Valley out,” said Carma Kimball who helped in organizing the drive. “We hope that it will become an annual project for us.”

Kimball and other OPD representatives delivered all of the food items collected to the Cappalappa Family Resource Center office in Overton on Monday, December 20.

“This will go a long way in helping us to meet the needs of the people here in the Valley who are struggling,” said Cappalappa administrator, Penny Vallone.
