In celebration of Nevada’s 150th anniversary of statehood, Nevada State Parks is hosting a series of Dutch oven cook-offs at state parks across Nevada. Winners from each cook-off will be invited to compete in a statewide final at Cathedral Gorge State Park in September. The grand prize will include a silver Nevada Sesquicentennial 150th Medallion.
The cook-off series begins at Valley of Fire State Park on Saturday, February 8. Participants are allowed unlimited entries. The public is welcome to attend and sample the Dutch oven fare. The competition will have five categories: bread, dessert, main/dish/meat, side dish/vegetable, and “1860’s era recipes”. Please go to www.parks.nv.gov for entry forms and a full description of the contest rules.
Cooking begins at 8 a.m. Judging will begin at 2:45 p.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m.
