Free Smoke Detector Program Continues

The people of Moapa Valley have an opportunity to make their homes safer with free smoke detectors, thanks to the American Red Cross, local community service organizations, and JustServe.org.

The American Red Cross is donating smoke detectors for every home in Moapa Valley that needs them. Installation is completed by local volunteers. Several hundred free smoke detectors were installed in the fall of 2016 throughout the upper and lower valleys, and opportunities now continue in 2017.

Flyers will be posted at area businesses and distributed at Lin’s Marketplace, with both English and Spanish instructions. But you don’t need a flyer to participate. All homes and residents are eligible to register for free smoke detectors.
To receive free smoke detectors, residents are encouraged to register at justserve.org. Then they must call 702/397-FIRE and leave a contact name and phone number. A volunteer representative will return calls and request additional information to determine the number of smoke detectors needed in the home.

Once a sufficient number of requests have been received, an installation date will be scheduled with American Red Cross and the requested installations completed in Moapa Valley. This process will be repeated throughout the year based on interest and number of registrants.

Volunteers are also needed to help with the project. All residents are encouraged to support this community service effort by registering at www.justserve.org and volunteering to participate.
