SNSO To Perform ‘Overtures and More’

The Southern Nevada Symphony Orchestra will perform the last concert of their third season, “Overtures and More” on April 8 in the CasaBlanca Showroom in Mesquite.
Emphasis with the third concert will be placed on overtures. Overtures are found at the beginning of a major musical work and gives a taste of what is to follow in the composition, said SNSO Conductor, Dr. Selmer Spitzer.

Overtures will be performed by Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Piotr Tchaikovsky, Franz Von Suppe, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
“Similarly, the Overtures in this concert are just the beginning in the continued development of the Southern Nevada Symphony Orchestra for years to come,” added Spitzer.
Rita Hermie has been with SNSO since its inception playing piano and percussion.
“The SNSO has really matured a lot with our musical selections since our beginnings three years ago,” said Hermie. “At first, I would not have thought a symphony would do well in Mesquite, but now we are selling out.”

During the third season, SNSO has held two previous sold-out successful concerts.
“I feel that the Southern Nevada Symphony Orchestra, without a question, did an outstanding job in its development and growth during this our third season,” said Spitzer. “I would be safe to say it was well beyond our expectation.”

Spitzer said they are planning on four concerts for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
