Moapa Valley Progress
Lin’s Marketplace has again made significant donations to Moapa Valley schools. The funds, generated through the store’s School Cents program, were recently presented to each of the recipient schools.
Grant Bowler Elementary, Ute Perkins Elementary, and Mack Lyon Middle School were all big winners in this year’s School Cents payouts. Overton Lin’s Marketplace General Manager Darin Leach traveled to each school to make the presentations in person.
“This year out of 43 stores that supported a total of 58 schools, our three schools were numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the amount of funds generated and donated to them,” Leach said. “In fact, out of the $60,000 awarded this year by the Lin’s Corporation, a full 26.14% of that sum stayed local and was split between these three schools.”
Bowler Elementary received the largest check at $6,163.40. Bowler was followed very closely by Perkins Elementary with $5,917.61. Mack Lyon received $3,498.99.
“It is a huge credit to the members of our community, our schools, and the parents that are involved in these schools that we were able to generate this money to support our local students,” Leach said. “We also have to give recognition to our local Lin’s front-end service providers in the stores who are always willing to remind parents to link their accounts.”
With the end of the School Cents season, however, all linking is dropped and accounts must once again be linked o become active in generating funds.
Lin’s Assistant manager Jesse Jenson explained how easy linking is. “You can do it online right from your Lin’s Plus Rewards account, or we would be happy to help you at the service counter in the store,” he said.
To link online, go to linsgrocery.com and log in to your Plus Rewards Account. At the top of the Plus Rewards page, click on Nonprofits and select the school of your choice.
School personnel were understandably thrilled and grateful for the money they received.
“Donations like this are particularly valuable to the school,” said Mack Lyon principal Ken Paul explained. “We can use this money to directly benefit students wherever it is needed most.”
Perkins principal Holly Lee said, “We greatly appreciate this. We were all shocked by the amount received. All of us were very happy.”
Lee said that the school is planning to use the money for reading programs.
Bowler principal Shawna Jessen was also very pleased and grateful. “We could not do many of the wonderful things we do without the support of the community and community partners such as Lin’s,” she said. “We really appreciate Lin’s not only for this donation, but for the support we receive from them in many forms all throughout the year.”
