A New Pet Grooming Business Opens In Mesquite

By STEPHANIE BUNKER

Dog groomer Julie Jackson takes great care in grooming dogs. Snip-N-Clip is now open to clients in Mesquite and Moapa Valley.

There is a new pet grooming business in Mesquite. At the new Snip-N-Clip the dogs come out looking better than their owners have ever seen them! The new business located 340 Falcon Ridge Pkwy in Mesquite takes dogs of all sizes, cuts, and colors.

With 30 years of experience in the grooming business, Julie Jackson treats the dogs like royalty and makes them look that way too.

Jackson began her career grooming poodles for shows in California. As the years went on more breeds were added to the shows and Jackson got a feel for each and every breed.
She jokingly adds that she prefers not to prep poodles for shows, “They are very time consuming, it would take 3 days to have a poodle ready for a show.”

Jackson had no less than four grooming shops in California and she said she really enjoyed her time there. Later she moved to Las Vegas and groomed dogs for 5 years there.

Her mom and sister needed her help in Mesquite so she moved there with her husband. She worked for a groomer for a short time in Mesquite before her husband got ill and she had to take care of him. After his passing she, once again had time on her hands.
“I was just sitting at home doing nothing, quite some time passed and I got bored,” Jackson said. “I was thinking of how much I love the dogs and the way they look, I really enjoyed grooming.”

Jackson said that she decided she would get back in the business. And so Snip-N-Clip was born,
“It’s like therapy for me,” Jackson said.
She has a poodle of her own that is her best friend and buddy, his name is Beau. “He really gets a kick out of coming to work with me,” Jackson said. “Not every dog gets to do that.”
Jackson uses a special shampoo on the dogs that enhances their color. “A lot of times the owner didn’t even know that their dog was that color!” she said.

Jackson also explained that she does not cage dry the dogs, she uses a blower, “You don’t get the same effect from the cage dry, and the dogs love the dryer, it’s like a massage.”

Rhonda Hills, a friend of Jackson’s, said, “Julie loves the dogs, she groomed them for show at the American Kennel Club, and she is really gentle with lots of experience.”
Hills said that Jackson reminds her of the dog whisperer.
Jackson at Snip-N-Clip welcomes her new canine customers into the shop. “The animals are so cute and fun,” she said, “I enjoy getting to groom them and I like to make them pretty.”
