A recent PROGRESS article (MVWD Board Hears Complaint About Recent Policy Change: Progress, Oct. 18, 2017) stated that I and 72 other people were “enjoying a special rate” that the Moapa Valley Water District was giving us out of the goodness of its heart.
That is insulting and disgusting forgetting the fact that this “special rate” that we were “enjoying” was a promise that if we would let them install, at our expense, a water meter, it would be “Grandfathered” in until such time when the service was being used.
Where are the elected members that are supposed to sit in on the board meetings and represent the customers? I showed up at a meeting to protest the broken promise of the Grandfathered-in rate and was told to sit in the lobby until I was called. After a while, I was escorted into the meeting room and was allowed 5 minutes to express my concerns.
I stated that I was disappointed that a promise was broken to 72 other customers and I. Then one of the members unknown to me stated, that the reason they couldn’t keep their promise was because the government told them that they couldn’t. His speech did little to rectify a broken promise.
My word is my bond and I feel that I have been wronged along with 72 others that followed the rules of MVWD and never had a delinquent payment to them for their services.
I feel that their actions are fraudulent and borderline discrimination towards me as a fixed-income senior, as I’m sure many of the other 72 customers are as well.
