Former MVHS Administrator Makes Major Career Transition

By MAGGIE MCMURRAY

Moapa Valley Progress

Logandale resident Pledger Solomon has recently transitioned from serving as MVHS assistant principal to now owning an Allstate Insurance agency.

Moapa Valley resident Pledger Solomon is adding his own hometown touch to an Allstate Insurance agency. Solomon recently took over an Allstate agency and is encouraging local residents to check him out for their insurance needs. The agency offers auto, home, life, and retirement insurance. Solomon says there are lots of deals and discounts available, especially when bundling two or more lines of insurance.

Solomon, who is better known in the realm of local education. Until recently he served as the assistant principal of Moapa Valley High School.

How he made the switch to the world of insurance is an interesting story, he said. While working at the high school, Solomon was there when Logandale resident Kevin Walker came in to interview for a teaching position at the school. Walker had owned his own Allstate Agency for many years and was now looking to make the switch to teaching.

During the course of their discussion, Walker mentioned that he was looking for someone to take over his Allstate agency. That started Solomon to thinking. He said that he felt ready for a change himself. So after some further discussion and investigation, he decided that it might be just the thing he was looking for. Solomon decided to take early retirement from education and the rest is history.

So far Solomon says he has loved being in the insurance field. “I love being in private business,” he said. “I still get to work with people, which is important to me, and I have enjoyed networking with others. I really feel that I have found the perfect business for me after retiring.”

Solomon also has come to appreciate the Allstate company, which he feels can really be of benefit to most people. “I like the company because it’s known nationwide,” he said. “They have a really good marketing and advertising program. I really like that claims are paid out very quickly. Really, in the end, I feel that their claim is true when they say that you’re in good hands with Allstate.”

Although Solomon’s agency is physically located in Henderson, he said that many of his customers are from Moapa Valley. He encourages anyone who is shopping the insurance market to give him a call and get a quote.

Solomon was born and raised in Las Vegas, graduating from Basic High School. After serving an LDS mission in Taiwan, he graduated from BYU with a degree in psychology. He moved to Moapa Valley to run the Country Market grocery store that was located for many years next to the Logandale post office.

Discovering that he really loved teaching and working with kids, Solomon went back to school and became certified to teach elementary school. He was hired at Grant Bowler Elementary, where he taught at all grade levels over many years.
“I loved teaching elementary school because I felt like that was what I was meant to do at that time,” he said. “I loved watching kids learning and being excited about school. I loved making a difference in kids’ lives.”

Solomon eventually applied to be assistant principal at Bowler in 2007, where he stayed for the next six years.
In 2013, Solomon moved to become the assistant principal at MVHS, meeting up again with several of his students from Bowler. Solomon stayed at MVHS for 4 ½ years.
“I really enjoyed working at the high school because I was able to watch the students that I had in elementary school grow into young adults and be involved in athletics, clubs and school activities, and school leadership,” Solomon said. “I am so proud of the youth in this community.”

Solomon is excited about his new business and the great opportunity he feels it provides for him and for members of the community. He concluded, “If you’re interested in seeing if you can save money on insurance, give me a call. We provide great customer service and love to work with local families.”
Solomon can be reached at 702-938-5050 or stop by next time you’re in Henderson. His office is located at 55 S Gibson Rd and is open M-F from 9am to 6pm.
