First 2018 Job Fair Sees Promising Turnout

Moapa Valley Progress

Attendees complete applications for employment last week at a Job Fair held by Mesquite Works organization.

The first Mesquite Works Job Fair for 2018, held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, was dubbed a success as over 115 job-seekers visited the event at the Rising Star Sports Ranch Grand Ballroom. This was one of four job fair events planned for the year, as the community and businesses continue to see promising results each time.

Statistics on how many applicants were hired are not yet available. But if last year is any indication of what is yet to come this year, dozens of open positions should be filled in the coming weeks.
Feedback from both employers and job seekers remained positive. Many agreed that the location of the event, the space provided and the availability of resources found on site were ideal. Employers also noted that the quality of the applicants are becoming better with each job fair event.

The staff at Mesquite Works continues to offer assistance and education to job seekers, offering free classes on resume building and interview skills.
Such work is something that businesses have recently begun to recognize and support in the region. In addition to previous donations from the Mesquite Works board members, several businesses have made financial contributions that keep the non-profit organization alive and well.
“Mesquite Works truly appreciates the support of community institutions,” said Gault. “Their support allows us to fulfill our mission of connecting job seekers with employers.”

This type of support will assist Mesquite Works in their operation costs at their office located at 312 W. Mesquite Blvd, Suite 102. The nonprofit organization has helped over 100 clients throughout the past year learn how to successfully interview for jobs in the Virgin and Moapa Valleys with their various classes and skilled volunteers as well as many job fairs.

For more information on the Job Fair, Mesquite Works and how to volunteer, visit www.mesquiteworksnv.org or stop by the office Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or call 702-613-0699 to make an appointment.

The next Mesquite Works Job Fair will be held on May 23 from 2-6 pm, once again in the Rising Star Sports Ranch Grand Ballroom.
