Local Merchants Ready To Celebrate Moapa Valley Mothers

By CHARLENE PAUL

Moapa Valley Progress

Created by Anna Jarvis in 1908, Mother’s Day became an official holiday in 1914. Although Jarvis denounced the commercialization of the holiday and spent the latter part of her life trying to have it removed from the calendar, Mother’s Day is still alive and well and is quickly approaching. (For those of you who may not glanced at your calendars, Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 13!)

Whether you are ahead of the game and have already made plans for Mom on her special day or are now in a cold sweat wondering how you’re going to pull off the perfect Mother’s Day celebration, the merchants of Moapa Valley are here to help.

The local eateries are geared up to make Mother’s Day special. There are plenty of options. Enjoy a Sunday buffet at La Fonda’s Mexican Restaurant in Overton. Dig into an ice cream sundae at The Inside Scoop. Bring home all the fixings for a delectable homecooked meal from Lin’s Market Place. Savor a juicy burger at Muddy River Bar and Grill. Satisfy Mom’s appetite at Mi Pueblito.

Sugar’s Home Plate will be serving specials all day Sunday. There will be complimentary cake for everybody, and moms will receive special See’s Chocolates. From strawberry waffles to prime rib, owner Judy Metz and her staff go all out to make sure Mom’s day will be a good one.
“There will be flowers and balloons for a festive feel,” explained Metz. “I think it is the most fun day of the year to work because everybody is happy. No one is on their cellphones, and everyone is smiling and laughing and enjoying being together.”

And what would Mother’s Day be without flowers and special gifts? The Front Porch in Overton has a good selection of Mother’s Day cards and items that will put a smile on Mom’s face. And flowers? They can create everything from a simple carnation or rose to a beautiful bouquet of mixed blossoms. Front Porch owner Charlene Udall and her staff invite you to come on in and see how they can help make this Mother’s Day a day to remember.

Whatever you decide to do this Mother’s Day, let’s remember how important moms are in all of our lives. Whether you say it with cards, flowers, food, or simple words of gratitude, let’s show them a day of special attention, love, and gratitude. Happy Mother’s Day!
