Mesquite Regional Business Names New President

By WESLIE STRATTON

Moapa Valley Progress

Colton Teerlink

Mesquite Regional Business welcomed new president and CEO Colton Teerlink in June. A Virgin Valley native, Teerlink took the reigns from interim president Courtney Sweetin who had filled in following Rachel Dahl’s resignation in February of this year.

Teerlink said that the organization was looking for someone stable and rooted in the community.
“Someone who sees some of our goals and visions here,” he said.

Teerlink said that he was born and raised in Mesquite.
“I graduated from Virgin Valley High School after growing up in the Valley,” he said. “After school I went to Southern Utah University (SUU) and then served a two-year (LDS) mission. Upon returning I got married shortly after.”

Following his marriage to a fellow local, Teerlink said that he went back to school at SUU and eventually finished his undergraduate studies in business administration at Dixie State University. He later went back to school and achieved his MBA.

The couple has two children and Teerlink said that he feels fortunate to be able to live and work in the community he grew up in.
“I want to create opportunities for my peers,” he said, adding that he hopes that some who have moved away can return with the development of career opportunities.

Teerlink listed his qualifications for this new position as a history in sales, interaction with the public and optimism.
“I’m optimistic in looking for a solution,” he said. “I’m not saying something can’t be done.”
He said that when companies come to Mesquite looking to expand, relocate or start a new business he will be getting behind them and supporting them.

Teerlink had just started a business when he came across the CEO position.
“It’s something I believed in and want to be involved in,” he said of Mesquite Regional Business.
“It was a good fit and here I am.”

Teerlink said that he is fortunate to be working with a good board at MRB and that Mesquite has a lot of great potential.
“We’re bringing in and building the industrial park,” he said, adding that the Lower Flat Top Drive exit was the first phase of the project and that the Eagles Landing truck stop is an integral part of the planned development.

“That project is underway and nearing completion and will be open this fall,” he said of Eagles Landing.
According to Teerlink, the industrial park consists of 800 private and city owned acres that have been titled Mesquite Technology and Commerce Center.

“We have some prospects looking to come in there,” he said, adding that some property has been purchased by a large company who focuses on the manufacture of motor coaches.
“They need a repair facility in the western hub,” he said. “When motor coaches need repair and have warrantees they can get the work done here.”

Teerlink said that the project is still in motion and the MRB is looking forward to the time they break ground.
“My goal and effort is to bring jobs and opportunities to the region,” he said, including Mesquite, Overton, Logandale, Moapa and more. “When one grows, we all grow.”
