Recognition For Many Years Of Experience

Doug Barlow and Janet Marshall, owners of Foremost Realty in Logandale, were recognized last week for their long-time membership in the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.

Two local real estate professionals have been recognized for their many years of experience in the industry. Doug Barlow and Janet Marshall, owners of Foremost Realty in Logandale, were recognized for their long-standing involvement with the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors (GLVR). Barlow received an award for 35 years of membership in the listing association. Marshall received an award for 20 years of membership.

The GLVAR is the local branch of the National Association of Realtors®, which represents 1.3 million members across the country.
“You cannot call yourself a Realtor unless you’re a member of the National Association of Realtors,” explained Marshall. “You can call yourself a real estate agent, but you cannot call yourself a Realtor without the designation.”.

The GLVAR hosts and manages the large database of real estate listings in the greater Las Vegas area. The company also provides training and education to its members, and requires all agents to maintain a high standard of ethics.

In their combined 70 years of experience in the real estate industry and 55 years as members of the GLVAR, Barlow and Marshall said they’ve seen the patterns of the market and recognize things tend to move in cycles.

“Back in the 1980s, we had a recession and interest rates were 18 to 20 percent,” recalled Barlow. “Then we came out of that. We saw the 90s come and housing kind of priced itself out of the market. Things skyrocketed. Then when it crashed, we had all those short sales, foreclosed homes, and such,— for several years — that’s all we did. Now it’s recovered.”

“Over the years, you see that about every five years, there’s some kind of challenge or dip in the market or something, but you just keep working it and doing what you can,” he added.

Barlow received his real estate license in 1972, about 10 years before joining the GLVAR. He has been working in the industry for a total of 45 years.

Barlow began his career in Las Vegas and worked there for many years with Coldwell Banker Premier Realty where he was consistently recognized as one of the top sales associates in the state of Nevada. Barlow continued to work in Vegas even after relocating, in 1978, back to Moapa Valley where he was born and raised.

He commuted every day until 1997 when he and Marshall went into business together. They initially partnered to purchase the local Coldwell Banker franchise and operated under Coldwell until rebranding themselves as Foremost Realty in 2011.

Marshall received her license in 1992 and worked out of a Mesquite office until 1997, which was also when she joined the GLVAR.

In the course of her career, Marshall said she has seen many children grow up in the valley, leave, then return to buy homes for their families. The best part of her career, she said, is helping people find their homes — regardless of where they’re from.
