The VFW Post 8336 presented local Boy Scout, Yadon Witskin with the 2018 Nevada Scout of the Year award on September 9.
“I asked Yadon if he would like to apply for the award,” said his mom Jocelyn Witsken. “And we got busy with the paperwork.”
Yadon took care of all the details, turned everything in, and participated in a telephone interview with VFW Post 8336 Commander Ralph Healey of Logandale. The young Scout and his mom didn’t hear anything for two months, and had almost forgot about it. Then the call finally came.
Yadon and his family were excited. “I didn’t realize it was a state award,” said Jocelyn. “We thought it was just something local.”
Yadon was presented with the State of Nevada Golden Eagle trophy along with a certificate of recognition and a $100 check from the Elwood Perkins VFW Post 8336 by Commander Healey and Post Chaplain Larry Griffiths. “That statue is totally legit!” said Yadon after the ceremony.
Yadon is a member of Logandale Boy Scout Troop 542. He completed 35 merit badges and installed two benches into cement pads in front of Moapa Valley High School for his Eagle project. He achieved his Eagle Scout rank in January 2017.
Yadon went above and beyond in Scouting, earning his bronze and gold palms by continuing to work on merit badges past the number necessary for his Eagle Scout rank.
