The Moapa Valley Revitalization Project is calling out for help from local residents. They are asking for help in selecting a special new logo for the Moapa Valley communities.

In August, the MVRP decided that the community needs a logo for use on promotional materials to draw visitors to town. So they decided to hold a logo artwork contest. The contest was open to all current or former residents of Moapa Valley. There was no age limit.

The group go the word out about the competition through the newspaper and through social media. They also spoke to art teachers at local schools.

In response, the group has received no less than twenty-seven entries. Most of these came from talented students at Grant M. Bowler Elementary School.

Bowler art teacher, Shawn Hudgell, said one of the biggest challenges about this contest was teaching his students what revitalization meant. “I was able to explain it to them by asking them if they had noticed the new green benches outside the hardware store,” Hudgell said. “I told them that was one of the projects that MVRP has done and those benches are helping to revitalize the downtown.”

Entry #3

Out of the twenty-seven entries, the MVRP board chose three top finalists. They are now asking Moapa Valley residents’ for help in choosing the winner.

The three logos are being printed with this article. Those wishing to vote can cut their favorite logo out of this page and place it in the drop-off box at the Customer Service Desk at Lin’s Marketplace. Alternatively, people can visit the Moapa Valley Revitalization Project Facebook page and vote for their favorite logo there.

The voting period starts Wednesday, October 10 and ends one week later on Wednesday, October 17. It is open to anyone in the valley.

MVRP would like to thank all the contestants for their hard work and for the beautiful designs that were submitted. “This is a great opportunity for each of them (the artists) to connect to the community,” said MVRP member Mary Kay Washburn. “I want all of the participants to know that even if their logo was not chosen, their contribution was valuable and we see the potential to use elements of their designs in future advertising materials. They should be proud of their contribution to Moapa Valley.”
