Halloween is an ancient holiday that was started by the Celtic people over 2000 years ago. The original name for the holiday was actually All Hallows Eve, and it was initially celebrated to honor the dead. Today’s version of Halloween is celebrated in some of the same ways. Trick-or-treating, bobbing for apples, and holding parties and gatherings have been traditions since the first Halloween.
Residents of Moapa Valley are also beginning to prepare for some much-anticipated Halloween festivities. Houses around town are being decorated, as is the front office of MVHS.
The annual corn maze is also run during the whole month of October to give locals a fun way to celebrate. From hay rides to pig racing to plenty of scares, the maze is a fun and popular activity to get the community excited about Halloween. Every year, the local FFA chapter hosts a pick-your-own-pumpkin event at the local agricultural education farm. The chapter invited the whole community to their pumpkin patch last Thursday and Friday to pick their own pumpkins straight from the vine.
Also, Parks and Recreation will be hosting a Trunk-Or-Treat event at the MV Recreation Center on the day of Halloween from 5:30-7:30 pm. Registering for hosting a ‘trunk’ will close the 26th. (Contact Parks and Recreation before then to let them know!) The event is open the entire community for free.
The fall season is upon us. Make sure to celebrate accordingly!
