The Annual Senior Center/Recreation Center Halloween Chili Cook-off Party was held on Saturday, October 20. There were aliens and superheroes, goblins, and knights in shining armor, pirates, cowgirls. A bright, shiny Tinker Bell, five-year-old Jade Houston, won the Best Kids Costume. Best Adult Costume went to Dorothy Fitzgerald.

These cute little trick-or-treaters wandered throughout the parking lot at the Moapa Valley Recreation Center in Overton, Nevada during the Chili Cook-off. Parks and Recreation coordinator Elmer Lopez guided them through the kids’ games of Hula Hoops, musical chairs, and eating a cookie off your forehead.

But the real reason the celebrants came was to have a say in who made the best chili. Attendees eagerly lined up to take part in the tasting. The Judge’s Award went to Carl Perkins. The People’s Choice went to Lita Fisher. And it was unanimous that John Stastny’s cornbread was really good!

Once the judging was over, the crowd sat down and eagerly got to the business at hand – eating a chili dinner.

This relaxing, fun, and filling day was coordinated and organized by Senior/Recreation Center Manager Cindy Marino along and with many community volunteers.
