Moapa Valley Progress
Local Boy Scouts and other volunteers went into action on Saturday, November 17 for the benefit of the needy in the community. The annual Scouting for Food effort was underway.
The Scouting for Food program began in 1985. Moapa Valley has been an active participant in this annual tradition as far back as anyone could remember.
It began in the days leading up to Saturday when local Cub Scouts went door to door throughout the town placing yellow bags and flyers on neighborhood doors. Local residents were encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food donations and leave them on their doorstep for pickup on Saturday.
On Saturday area Boy Scouts scoured through town gathering the donations that had been left out in the yellow bags.
All donations were taken to the Pioneer Park behind the Hinckley Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There, a small army of volunteers had gathered to sort through all of the donations and prepare them for delivery.
This year the turnout was fruitful. Short work was made by many hands willing to work to help the community. The food collected was all donated to the food bank at Cappalappa Family Resource Center.
