There’s Snow Place Like MVHS: 2018 Winter Week Features Unique Dress-Up Days, Activities

By TRUE JARREL

MVHS Winter Week is an annual occurrence, but, thanks to the ingenuity of our Student Council, this year’s festivities are something special.

StuCo came up with unique dress-up themes for each day this week. Monday was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Crazy Sock Day, and today, Wednesday, is Holiday Headwear. Thursday is Candy Cane Day, and Friday will finish up the week with Ugly Sweater Day.

“We definitely wanted to keep the classics like pajama day and ugly sweater day,” explained StuCo member Payten Peluaga, who helped plan the dress-up days. “Those are always fun, and everyone tries to participate. We want more participation, especially because sometimes we do extravagant things that only a few students get involved in.”

Accompanying these themes is a daily activity planned by StuCo.

On Monday, there was a kickoff assembly to entertain students and explain the activities for the rest of the week.

On Tuesday, Student Council handed out free donuts and hot cocoa to the student body.

Today, Wednesday, features a ‘present chase’ game throughout the day.

Finally, on Thursday, there is a drive-in showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the drive-in movie!” commented StuCo member Abigail Dursteler.

“I love The Grinch! It’s a great movie, and we always get a good turnout,” added Peluaga.

Students are also encouraged to attend Pirate sporting events (flag football, basketball, and wrestling) throughout the week.

“We really wanted to involve all of the students and get everyone excited,” said Dursteler.

Dursteler added that she was disappointed that there wasn’t more time available to do every activity StuCo originally had planned.

“It’s not just what StuCo wants, it’s about the entire school,” remarked Peluaga. “When we plan these activities, we have to take a step back and see if everyone would want to be involved.”

All in all, this week is a perfect way for MVHS students to kick off the upcoming winter break and start up some much-needed holiday spirit!
