If I had to share one word that reminds me of Christmas, it would probably be “poverty.” Too often, we forget how the celebration of Christmas finds its beginnings in the abject poverty of a manger – no heat, no lights, no electricity, no luxury of any kind.
Yet from that humble birth, on that icy night so many years ago, people of faith, can acquire the luxurious gifts that Jesus brought to the world: the gifts of peace to the soul, grace, mercy, salvation and eternal life in Christ.
Too often we take for granted and forget that all we have comes from God. Too often, we are afraid of short-changing ourselves if we share with others. The reality is, a great part of the richness in giving, is the feeling we receive in return by honoring the Christ Child through our generosity with others.
It is through our acts of sharing that we can truly experience the miracles that come with Christmas. This year be resolute and willing to open your hearts to the idea and experience of abundant giving and sharing with others. You will become a far richer person than you can ever imagine.
