There is no shortage of people who need help during the holidays; both in the community and around the world. This year, the Moapa Valley FFA chapter organized a change drive with the purpose of helping fellow high school students in need during the holiday season.

The event was run at Moapa Valley High School from December 1-21. FFA members decided to start the event after hearing about how some students at the school were struggling for money during the holiday season. So the FFA members placed jars around the high school where students and teachers could donate their loose change.

A large part of the FFA change drive was the concept that “A little change can help a lot.” The chapter wanted to see that everyone who could donate would. They encouraged the high school students to think of those less fortunate, and to donate just a little to see some change in their community.

The FFA students running the event claimed that they wanted to see someone who was much less fortunate than themselves be able to have at least a little something for their holiday season.
All of the change collected went to buying supplies for those students in need. The change was turned to various gifts and supplies for those students.

All of the money was collected at the end of the school day on December 21 and was counted by the front office staff. The FFA chapter also helped collect new and gently used backpacks for MVHS to give out to students who cannot afford a backpack. The backpack drive brought in over 10 backpacks and bags

The front office staff at Moapa Valley High school distributed the proceeds of the drive to students who they saw as needing help during the season. All of the gifting was kept anonymous.

The students who helped run the event said that they want to everyone to be able to have an amazing holiday season, and that everyone deserves a truly merry holiday.
