The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H program is extending its operations from Logandale into Virgin Valley. The program will offer a variety of activities that are open to the public.

This week, the organization is celebrating the opening of a new Cooperative Extension location at 155 N. Willow. An Open House will be held at the location on Saturday, January 5 from 10 a.m. to noon.

According to 4-H Program Coordinator Lacey Sproul-Tom, the new location will feature 4-H extension workshops, STEM focus activities, arts and crafts, and more.
“We will offer a lot of the same programing that we offer in Logandale,” Sproul-Tom said.
4-H members in chartered clubs from eastern Clark County learn valuable life skills while mastering skills in projects, such as Animal Science, Home Arts, Rocketry and Aero-space, Robotics, Gardening, Shooting Sports, Nutrition, and more.

“A good thing about 4-H is that the majority of activities are free,” Sproul-Tom said. “Occasionally, however, there are fees to cover activities that require additional funding.”

Those who attend this Saturday’s Open House will have the opportunity to experience some of the activities that the Cooperative Extension offers, including gardening and an Ozobots activity.
“They can come and learn some coding with the Ozobots activity,” Sproul-Tom said.

Goat yoga, instructed by Christina Geist, will take place at noon. Baby goats are ready and waiting for the opportunity to jump around the participants. “It’s going to be so fun,” said Sproul-Tom. “But you have to bring your own yoga mat.”

According to Sproul-Tom, the University of Reno Cooperative Extension has been looking for a location in Mesquite for three years.
“We’re thankful that County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick was able to help us find a central location that works for everyone,” said Sproul-Tom. “We’re really excited to have this new building. There will be fun for all ages.”

Parents and youth are encouraged to attend the Open House where they will be able to ask 4-H leaders any questions they may have about the program and its new location.
