Roman Solis Cortez, age 74, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at his home in Overton, Nevada. He was born July 7, 1944 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Moises S. Edwiges Soliz Cortez. On February 10, 2011 he married Karen Marie Clements in Overton, Nevada.

Roman grew up in Moapa Valley from a young age. He worked for the Nevada Department of Transportation for over thirty years. He also owned and operated Cortez Fencing and enjoyed working with his sons in the business. Roman was a simple man who loved his family and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Survivors include his wife Karen of Overton; children: Eustolia Cortez of Overton, David (Laura) of Indiana, Danny (Amanda) Cortez of Indiana, Michelle (Sixto) Hernandez of Las Vegas, Manny Cortez of Overton, Yvette Cortez of Pahrump, step children: Silvestre (Morisa) of Henderson, Juan (Josi), Daniel (Janie), Stacy (Vickie), Rogelio Dominguez and Humberto (Marisol) all of Odessa, Texas; 32 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings: Roger (Elida), Raymundo (Tila), Tirso (Lupe), Erlinda (Scott) Stewart and Ermila Palin. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Enedina.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Overton LDS Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.

  1. Roman Cortez was a wonderful, wonderful friend. Whom I admired so very much. My condolences to his family.
    I was unable to attend his service due to illness. Michelle, Danny and Mandy your father was perfect in my eyes, As far as I am concerned. He could do no wrong. I miss him and am grateful I had the privilege of knowing him. God bless you and comfort you always. Elaine Chorlton
