Donation Drive Being Held For Local Youth In Need

By JENNA RHUDE

Moapa Valley Progress

A local movement geared toward providing for local school children in need is collecting donations around Moapa Valley.

Members from each local School Organizational Team and Parent Teacher Organization committee along with Moapa Valley Community Education Advisory Board (MVCEAB) are teaming up on the effort which is being called “Love At Home.” The project aims to ensure that local schools are well stocked to assist needy children with their basic needs so they can better focus on their education.

Moapa Valley resident Erika Whitmore has been coordinating this effort.
“It is amazing to me, but not surprising, that all the schools and all the different entities want to be involved with helping meet the needs of kids in our valley,” Whitmore said.

Collected donations are available to preschool through high school aged students.
Items being collected include travel size and full size hygiene products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hair products, soap and feminine hygiene products); new socks, sizes toddler to adult; new underwear, sizes toddler to adult; non-perishable food items including Easy Mac, Cup-O-Noodles, fruit cups, applesauce, granola bars, beef sticks, etc; gently used PE clothes for MVHS and MLS (shorts and shirts); gift cards to McDonalds, Lin’s, Family Dollar, Amazon and Walmart; school supplies including pencils, crayons, backpacks, paper, colored pencils, markers and glue sticks. Cash donations may also be made and will stay in the Moapa Valley community to fill the needs of local youth.

Donation boxes will be placed at all Valley schools, including Ute Perkins. Monetary donations can be made through Venmo to MVcommunityneeds@gmail.com. Cash donations can be dropped off to Whitmore at 4363 Thistle St in Logandale. School counselors will monitor and distribute all gift cards. All donations will be distributed between the four local Moapa Valley schools.

Donations will be collected until Feb. 15.
“Our community is so generous and so kind, there is no reason for any child to go without,” Whitmore said.
