The Grant Bowler Elementary Parent Teacher Organization hosted its annual Dads and Donuts event on Friday, Jan. 25. The breakfast activity provided fathers and father figures the opportunity to spend quality time with their children in their school environment.
Dads, uncles and grandparents escorted youngsters to the multipurpose room before school. There they were greeted by smiles from a group of local moms gathered to help serve donuts, milk and juice to participants to show appreciation for their hard work.
Kids expressed excitement at sharing this time with their dads.
“My dad works a lot during the week,” one child said. “I’m so happy that he could go in to work late today and come eat donuts with us.”
More than 200 people fit into the cafeteria. After eating, several of the youth escorted their dads outside to show off their monkey bar, tetherball and tag skills.
Several fathers enjoyed watching the kids while also having adult interaction amongst themselves. One father said that this was the only time he had to catch up with other dads.
“Usually I hear everything from my wife,” he said. “Commuting takes up a lot of time.”
This annual event, along with Mom’s and Muffins and Grandparent’s Day, is something the adults and kids look forward to annually. Many expressed appreciation to the parents, staff and volunteers that make these events so successful and fun.
