This week’s readers’ poll reveals that the majority of MVHS students are concerned with becoming more fit and healthy this year. 32% of those surveyed chose the category of physical health over the options of mental wellness, religion, academic success, and social habits.

Sophomore Madilyn Fairchild said, “I want to eat healthier and start to work out regularly.”

Henry Patino added, “My goal is to come back to football stronger than ever after an injury I had.” Patino, a sophomore, also said he hopes he can possibly become a role model through his efforts with football and physical fitness.

At 25%, the next largest category was mental wellness.

“I’m trying to learn to accept that I can’t control everything and just go with the flow,” says senior Mikelle Ericksen. “I’m working on building up my confidence and believing that I can handle whatever life throws at me!” Ericksen added that she wants to minimize procrastination and work on her time management skills as well this year.

At 17%, religion came in third place. Senior Ashlynn McClure commented that she plans to study her scriptures every day. “I hope to serve a mission for my church at the end of this year, so I am going to do everything I can to prepare for that!” said McClure. “If I keep doing the small and simple things, I will be blessed. I know that I can become who God wants me to become!”

Sophomore Alyssa Perez was among the 13% who chose to focus on academics in 2019. Perez wants to “have healthier habits and start researching colleges for my future.”

Jarett Jackman, a freshman, adds that he hopes to focus on schoolwork and pass all of his classes this year.

13% of those surveyed indicated that they’d like to improve their social habits. Junior Aubrey Cooper said, “Some of my goals are to go to more sports games, hang out with my friends more, and get to know more people!”

No matter what category you have chosen to focus on, good luck with your 2019 resolutions!
