Nevada Senior Services to be at the Community Resources Fair

By NICK YAMASHITA

Moapa Valley Progress

A Community Resources Fair, highlighting a myriad of services available to the residents of Moapa Valley, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Clark County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by several local organizations including the local JustServe.com team and the Moapa Valley Revitalization Project.

According to local JustServe.com coordinator, Larry Griffiths, this event will be something new and much needed to the community.

The Community Resources Fair will provide information and knowledge, and opportunities for residents to learn more and contact resources readily available to improve their lives and meet their needs.

One resource which will have a display at the event will be Nevada Senior Services, the Adult Day Care Centers of Las Vegas and Henderson. Located at 901 North Jones Boulevard in Las Vegas, this resource provides places where senior citizens may be able to receive supervision, entertainment and more during the day. It provides family or caregivers the opportunity to have a respite from 24-hour responsibility, and alternative to expensive in-home care, an ability to keep loved ones at home longer and the assurance that loved ones receive nursing and social interaction.

Many of the elderly afflicted with illnesses such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease find it hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle, mental well-being and social relationships.

The Nevada Senior Services staff helps provide the Senior Daycare Centers with nurses who can check vital signs and monitor weight and activity as well as personnel who focus on client engagement with their environment, stimulation and socialization.

According to their website they provide activities such as yoga, Tai Chi, music therapy, dancing, arts and more.

The organization and resource are looking forward to the Moapa Valley Community Resources Fair and will be present to answer any questions or provide help for residents of Moapa Valley.
