Paiute Travel Plaza Offers July 4th Thanks To Customers FOR FREE

By WESLIE STRATTON

Moapa Valley Progress

The Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza will host its annual July 4 celebration with a host of world-class festivities including live music, professional fireworks shows, great food and much more on July 3 and 4 located at Exit 75 on Interstate 15. The event is open and free to the general public and there is NO CHARGE for parking.

According to Moapa Band of Paiutes Administrative Assistant Sherryl Patterson, the primary purpose of the event is to thank the community and customers for their continued support.

“This is us thanking the community for using the plaza at any given time throughout the year,” Patterson said. “It is a thank you to all our customers throughout the year.”
Patterson said that the two-day event is family friendly and that camping and RVs are welcome although hookups are not provided.

While professional firework shows are provided each night, the public is welcome to bring their own fireworks to set off at the Plaza’s launch pad sites.
“As a firework show there is nothing that compares to the public coming out there,” Patterson said. “It’s an all-night thing. We have people shooting them off before it’s even dark.”

This year’s concert performers include Blue Oyster Cult; Blood, Sweat and Tears; and John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

Patterson said that the event will showcase local bands on the first night. But organizers have made an effort to ensure that there is wide range of music with genres from reggae to country.

“The concerts are put on to give people a safe and legal place to set off fireworks,” she said. “We try to make sure we have something for everyone.”

Also included in the festivities are various food vendors.
“There’s always plenty of good food,” Patterson said. This includes traditional Indian tacos, Mexican food, shaved ice and more. There will also be carnival fare with popcorn, cotton candy and beverages including a Texas Twister booth.

Doors open on July 3 for the first concert at 5 p.m. But Patterson said that people typically arrive earlier.
“We want an enjoyable and safe place for people to come an enjoy the Fourth,” Patterson said.
