The entire Virgin Valley community joined last week in celebrating VVHS Homecoming. The theme of the week, selected by VVHS student council, was “Arabian Nights.” And for many, it lived up to the magic and adventure captured in those stories.

The week started off with the Virgin Valley FFA blowing up a large movie screen on the school football field and showing the feature film: Aladdin. About 200 students attended the movie night. The FFA also sold candy and popcorn to the crowd as a fundraiser.

The Tuesday activity involved the entire community. It was the annual Homecoming Parade. Families lined up all along the Boulevard to watch the parade and gather candy as a truly enjoyable experience.

The 2019 VVHS Homecoming Royalty included Homecoming Queen Ally Wright and Homecoming King Taua Fiso.

“This was one of the best homecoming parades we have had!” said Virgin Valley resident Jamie Wakefield. “The floats and candy were abundant, and it was great to see so many students, staff and community members involved. Great job to everyone!”

Throughout the rest of the week many students attended different sporting events while looking forward to Friday’s football game against Rancho High School.

When Friday night finally came students were beyond excited. The student section was enthusiastic and loud at the homecoming game. The Student Council put a lot of work into leading cheers and making sure everyone was having a good time.

“I love living in a small town like Mesquite because our football games are a lot more hyped,” senior student Tamzen Tobler said. “We all lost our voices from the cheers and chants. It was so intense we never even sat down.”

The Bulldogs won the homecoming football game against Racho 62-12.

“I just had a blast Friday night,” said the senior. “I was proud of my boys and how we performed. We fed off the energy from the student section and I am just happy how things ended for us seniors and our last homecoming game.”

During half-time at the game, the winners of Homecoming royalty were announced. The Homecoming King and Queen for this year were Taua Fiso and Ally Wright. The junior Prince and Princess were Makiadi Plamedy and Thayna Arellano; the sophomore Prince and Princess were Espen Hild and Erin Ofori; and the freshman Prince and Princess were Stratton Waite and Samantha Angell.

The highly anticipated dance was held on Saturday. The VVHS student council decorated the Rising Star Ballroom for the big party.

“I’d have to say the best part of the dance was just seeing everybody there,” said Zoe Macais. “Seeing everyone have such a good time together was a really neat experience!”

When asked how she felt about being chosen as Homecoming, Queen Ally Wright said, “I was so grateful to be a nominee, and winning the votes to be Homecoming Queen was so exciting! It was such a fun experience.”

Homecoming King Taua Fiso added, “Being Homecoming King was awesome. Being King was fun, but spending time with my lifelong friends was even better. ‘Homecoming King’ is just a label that lasts a weekend, but the memories I made with my buddies will last forever.”
