The Moapa Valley High School Homecoming Week was a time of reforging old friendships as fourdifferent MVHS classes from the past got together for two major class reunion events.

Members of the MVHS Class of 1969 met over the weekend for their 50th year class reunion. But it was not just the 43 members of that class who were invited to the festivities. The class also invited the 27 members of the class of 1968, 34 members of the class of 1970 and a large group of their surviving teachers, to join them in their festivities.

On Friday night, a crowd of more than 80 people met in the Gary Bachelor Gymnasium at the high school for a special dinner social.

Lee Robison, of the MVHS class of 1969, opened the proceedings and welcomed the crowd.
“It is always amazing coming to these types of events to realize how good you feel compared to how old everyone else looks,” Robison joked.

Robison then recognized a number of teachers that had taught the three classes in school who were in attendance. These included Charles Pulsipher, Glen Hardy, Val Smith, Ron Dalley, Roger Miller, Larry Adams and Gary Batchelor. Each of the teachers was given a couple of minutes to recall fond memories they had of the three classes.

On Saturday morning, the reunion continued at the Old Overton Gym. There, the group toured the campus of the Mack Lyon Middle School; which was the site of MVHS when they had attended school. They then spent the afternoon reminiscing and telling stories about the old days.

In a separate reunion, the MVHS Class of 1979 celebrated its 40th year reunion. About two dozen class members met together on Friday night in the new gym at the school. The group then walked out to the football stadium to attend the Homecoming game together. Because the home stands were jam-packed for the big game, the class of 1979 sat in a block on the east bleachers of the field, cheering on the Pirates from there.

This group also gathered on Saturday at the Hinckley Pavilion where they had lunch together and spent the afternoon sharing memories and enjoying the time together.
