Overton Power District (OPD5) board trustee Judy Metz was recognized with a Director Gold Certificate from the National Electric Association (NRECA) at an OPD5 board meeting held on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Director Gold trustees are recognized for continuing their education well beyond the standard certificates, according to OPD5 General Manager Mendis Cooper.

Cooper explained that board members take five basic courses to receive a board certification.
“These courses cover everything from utility finances to strategic planning, running board meetings and more,” Cooper said.

After completing these five courses, board members can continue on and take 10 more courses to receive a board leadership credential. These courses go into greater depth on specific industry and governance issues including Risk Management, Power Supply, Parliamentary Procedure and Technology and Policy Development.

Finally, board members can take an addition three more courses to become a gold-certified director, Cooper said.

Cooper expressed gratitude to Metz for her dedication and commitment. “We congratulate you on that important accomplishment,” Cooper said. “We appreciate the training that you have gone through and the difference that it makes in helping us do our jobs and making that easier.”

An Overton resident, Metz was elected in 2014 to the at-large seat on the OPD5 Board of Trustees. She currently serves as the Board Chairwoman.
