Logandale Water Tank Gets New Look

Most of the residents of Moapa Valley may not have noticed anything different in their view to the west. But folks living around Tank Road in Logandale have most likely seen it.

The one-million gallon water tank up in the hills at the end of Tank Road has a new look. Since the concrete tank was constructed in 1970, it has always stood out against the desert landscape with a brilliant white color. But a pair of hard-working staffers from the Moapa Valley Water District (MVWD) have changed all that.

Over the past two weeks, MVWD employees Jesse Robison and Justin Postma have given the tank a new paint job. And now the light earth-colored tank blends in well with the surrounding desert hillsides.

It wasn’t an easy job, according to MVWD Assistant Manager Lon Dalley. The two-man crew went through about 60 gallons of paint to cover all of the surface area of the tank, he said.

In addition, Mother Nature didn’t seem to want to make things any easier. The work crew started out with the idea of using an industrial paint sprayer to do the job. But the strong winds that persisted throughout the past couple of weeks made that plan problematic. So the workers went back to the old fashioned way: using paint rollers.

It had been a long time since the old tank had received a new coat of paint, Dalley said. MVWD General Manager Joe Davis was the only one at the district who could remember when it was done last.

“That is because it was Joe who worked on it last time it was painted,” Dalley said. “It was way back when he was still pretty new at the district just after coming in right out of high school. That was 20 or 30 years ago.”
