The Progress
The Moapa Valley Revitalization Project (MVRP) has taken to Google in attempts to attract new residents to the Moapa Valley. Ads featuring rural Moapa Valley are appearing in more urban out-of-state areas urging people to seek the simpler life by moving here.
Google’s program offers to run advertisements for non-profit organizations at no cost. So MVRP has taken them up on that.
MVRP has chosen to partner with Google in hopes to highlight the positive attributes the Moapa Valley has for new residents.
“We are trying to attract individuals or families who now have the option to work remotely,” said MVRP member Jean Gottschalk who is heading up the effort. “The Moapa Valley has a lot to offer, especially for individuals who need a strong internet connection for work.”
Gottschalk pointed out that the option of fiber optic internet in the Moapa Valley is rare for rural areas. This makes the local community more appealing for individuals who need a strong and fast internet connection, he said.
“The fact that we are an hour away from a major airport is also a benefit for those that may have to travel for business occasionally as well,” Gottschalk said.
The ads have been running for a little over a month now and have had some positive results thus far. One person from out of state contacted the MVRP to get contacts for local realtors.
Gottschalk said he is able to see the running statistics on how many searches their ads have been visible in to date. They are able to track to see what ads are getting more attention than others and make any changes necessary to grab the attention of a larger audience.
Phase one of the ad campaigns are designed to attract new residents. Phase two will be to attract manufacturing and light industrial businesses to the area. As the campaign progresses, Gottschalk expects more opportunities will arise for different advertising campaigns.
The ultimate goal is to attract individuals who will bring positive aspects to the Valley, Gottschalk said. He hopes that it might also eventually attract new business to the community.
Revitalizing the downtown area is a huge step in attracting new residents as well, Gottschalk said. MVRP is looking for new ways to attract businesses to the downtown area to help rejuvenate the economy and bring in unique quality business to the area.

In all honesty, while this may seem like a good thing, I for one do not want our little valley advertised all over the internet! Nor do we want it to grow a whole lot more. Most of our green space/farm land is gone, houses in its place. And many of those that move here then complain because of dust from ATV’s, or smells from animals or something else. This is a sentiment felt by many, why do you think there isn’t more industry here. Just a thought.
