The Progress
An all-new sports bar restaurant is coming soon to Mesquite. Mad Mikes is expected to open sometime in March in the Sun Valley Plaza on Mesquite Blvd. The new restaurant will open in the same location as the former VJ’s BBQ restaurant.
New restaurant owners Mike and Shawna Oliver said they are excited about the upcoming opening.
“Good times will be here soon with Mad Mike’s,” said Shawna Oliver in an interview last week. “We want to cater to our locals with all kinds of fun food and entertainment.”
Shawna hails from Little Rock, California, a small town in the high desert just east of Palmdale. She has 30-years’ experience as a bartender and is excited about this new venture. Presently Shawna is working at the Boulevard Home Furnishings location in Mesquite.
Mike Oliver is a native of Las Vegas. He owns and operates a cement and handyman business in Las Vegas. He said that he also owned a bar in Colorado for a while.
The two live in Mesquite. But they both expect to keep their current jobs for a while to help them through the current COVID restrictions which have imposed on restaurants.
Mike said that he hopes to find a band that plays country music and classic rock & roll to play regularly at the new restaurant. He also plans to continue the tradition of Karaoke Night at the location. The couple said that they frequented VJ’s regularly and became acquainted with the Karaoke crowd,
“They are a great group of people” Mike said.
Mike added that the restaurant will open with regular “Bar food.” But he hopes to expand the offerings as needed; maybe even to include a nightly dinner special.
Mad Mike’s will be located at 551 W. Mesquite Blvd in Mesquite. Watch The Progress for additional news about the restaurant’s eventual opening.

Yay!! Sounds promising.
Yay! A new place to eat and drink.
I hope they hire kind friendly staff. We’ve been there several times and the bartender is abrupt and very slooow.
We have a house in Mesquite. Look forward to watching March Madness with you!!
Make sure that the band is really good. That will bring people in.
Hopefully a actual sports bar this time. Service can only get better than what VJs had there. Good luck.
Any room to come Linedance? Would love a night to do that!!!
I’m so into karaoke and can’t wait to sing in your new digs!
You never mentioned if this is a family eating place or just over 18? We need a place that caters to the community not another place to get drunk at. I have a teenager and we like to go out once a week for dinner. We are tired of the same old thing or fast food or forced to drive an hour away.
Very sorry to report but this new place is not worth the money. Service is terrible, it took over one hour and ten minutes for our meal to arrive. We ordered our hamburgers medium and all four came out well done.
