OBITUARY: James Byron Curtis

James Byron Curtis

James Byron Curtis passed away Sunday February 28, 2021 in St. George Utah. He was born September 22, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas James Curtis and Maude Fullmer. He grew up in the California bay area and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Germany. After attending Brigham Young University he married Carol Ann Gold September 4, 1964 in the Mesa, LDS temple.

Jim and Carol spent the next 12 years in Chicago, Illinois where he attended and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School and practiced dentistry. James’s dental career took them to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he did a fellowship in Oral Maxiofacial Prosthedontics. In 1986 his practice moved to Reno, Nevada and then Logandale, NV.

After 47 years of private practice, James retired. Carol and James volunteered to serve an LDS dental service mission in Guatemala City, Guatemala for 2 years where they provided essential services to children in orphanages and to missionaries.

Jim loved his wife and family, work as a dentist, flying his airplane, good movies, good jokes, good ice cream, making the best fudge in the world and getting tan by the pool.

He is survived by his wife Carol; children: Roger (Meg) Curtis of Atlanta, GA, Danna (Guy) Skoy of Salt Lake City, UT, Doug (Tami) Curtis of Fairfield, CO, Russel (Jill) of Reno, NV, William (Melanie) of Wilmington, NC, Sarah Ann Curtis of Columbus OH, and Annie (Tyson) Leavitt of Overton, NV; brother Dan G. (Lynne) Curtis of Mesa, AZ; Sisters: Deborah Ann Curtis of Woodbridge, VA, Carol Lynn Curtis (David) Smith of San Antonio, TX, and Stacey Leigh Curtis of Augusta, GA; 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
He was proceeded in death by his parents, and sister Claudia Curtis.

Viewing willl be held Saturday, March 6, 2021, from 11:30am-12:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logandale building, 3245 N. Moapa Valley Blvd., with funeral service beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at the Logandale Cemetery.

    was always happy and willing to help. Gary and I will forever be grateful when Gary was bedridden and Jim came over to our home and removed the post that cutting Gary’s tongue free of charge of course.
    My sincerest condolences to Carol and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you ❤️😘🙏.
